Healthier Maple Pecan Apple Crisp1

This month continues to be wonderful. I took a while off after quitting my job, sought out a new house in Chicago, beef Liver health Benefits went on a mini holiday with Tony, spent time with friends I haven’t seen in a while and have really gotten back to running.

Last week I actually ran about 15 kilometers, which really isn’t that much but I have been only working out every other time (if that), so I felt pretty proud of myself. The MapMyRun app on my mobile phone has me addicted to timing my runs and contending with myself. I’ve also obtained Tony to run with me several times. Even though he’s a professional athlete, the person hates to run. I do not get it.

The other day I came back from a 4 mile run (in 32 mins!); I decided that a small evening cooking was in order and wished to treat myself to something cozy. There were large Honeycrisp apples within the fridge so initially I was set on creating a pie, but then thought about the way i didn’t actually want to make the dough so I opted to look the apple crisp route.

Man I love an excellent juicy apple sharp using a crunchy topping. Who wouldn’t? Guys proceed crazy over it so if you’re wanting to in the baking skills, this is actually the perfect recipe in the first place.

This healthier maple pecan apple crisp version isn’t as buttery or sweet as my brown butter apple crisp , but dang it’s really really good. You’ll only become using 1/4 cup of maple syrup and a little brownish sugar for any sweet, crunchy topping. I love the topping because not only does it contain oats, nevertheless, you get nuttiness from both pecans and whole wheat flour.

If you are gluten free, simply sub a gluten free all purpose flour for the whole wheat and you’re in tip-top form. Wait, did I simply state that? Ugh.

Oh oh oh! Also keep in mind the bourbon right here. The bourbon isn’t required but oh my would it provide it a wonderful flavor. Unless you have any, you should use whiskey, spiced rum as well as vanilla extract as an alternative. Get crazy.

Lightened up Maple-Pecan Apple Crisp

Ingredients

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup chilly butter or vegan butter stick, cut into small cubes

5 medium Honeycrisp, Braeburn or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

1/4 cup real maple syrup

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously grease an 8×8 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.

To help make the topping: Combine the flour, oats, dark brown glucose, cinnamon and pecans in a big dish until well-combined. Add in the bits of butter and make use of your hands to squeeze and combine until the mixture turns into crumbly and resembles moist sand. (On the other hand, you can lower within the butter having a pastry cutter, or place all of the topping ingredients in a meals processor and pulse until just blended. Have a heaping 1/4 cup from the topping mixture and toss with the apple mixture. Place the apple blend in prepared skillet and sprinkle consistently with topping.

Bake the crisp on a cooking sheet (just in case the filling bubbles over!) for 45-55 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes on wire rack. Serve warm with zero fat vanilla glaciers cream. Makes 9 servings.

Feel free to make use of walnuts or almonds instead of pecans.

To create this gluten totally free, use GF oats and a regular all of the purpose flour. To make it vegan, sub a buttery vegan stick for the butter.
