Random desires. I get them all the time. In fact, I go through these strange stages where I’ll consume a similar thing for a month direct. Does that ever happen to you?
Throughout August I used to be deeply in love with frozen yogurt topped with raw cacao nibs and the ones frosted animal crackers (red ones, obviously). I also couldn’t obtain enough of the amazing honey crusted tilapia which i dreamt up and fed to my roommates. During the month of September I came across myself digging into the Nutella jar, pouring Tabasco smoked chipotle sauce on everything, eating sushi whenever possible, and chowing down on pancakes each morning.
Given that it’s October, I am obsessing over Trader Joe’s sprouted 7-grain breads (topped with roasted garlic hummus… OMG!), pumpkin muffins , greek yogurt with pumpkin butter, and undoubtedly, my favorite little grain: quinoa!
From pancakes to stir-frys, quinoa is a superb gluten-free grain to throw into recipes. It’s full of protein and fiber, packages a delicious nutty taste, and expands since it cooks – and therefore it will require on the taste from the liquid you cook it in.
Another thing that’s great? Quinoa cooks in only a quarter-hour, rendering it perfect to store within the fridge and add to your weeknight dinner menu or toss inside your lunch. So, how will you cook quinoa?
Step one 1: Wash your Quinoa: Quinoa could be bitter if you don’t properly wash it before you cook it. Place 1 cup quinoa in an excellent mesh strainer and rinse it a few times under cold water.
Step two 2: Use the right cooking water. Using different liquids brings a bigger taste dimension towards the quinoa, but water is great as well. Typically if I’m making breakfast quinoa, I prepare it in dairy. If I’m rendering it as a savory aspect dish, I’ll prepare my quinoa in a poultry or veggie broth for any bit of flavor from the sodium. However, cooking food your quinoa in water will also function great. Focus on a 1:2 ratio-one component quinoa, two parts water or other cooking food liquid (chicken broth, milk, etc). I use 1 cup quinoa and 2 mugs of liquid, which will make about 3 cups of prepared quinoa. If you’d like you can dual that to produce a larger batch.
STEP 3 3: Make quinoa. Bring the cooking food liquid to some boil then stir in quinoa. Reduce warmth to low, cover, and let simmer for precisely 15 minutes. Remove the saucepan from high temperature and allow stand protected for another 5-10 minutes.

How long do you think cooked quinoa is maintained in the refrigerator? Does it modification based on what you prepared it with? For example, would quinoa prepared in poultry broth not maintain quite as long?
